C64 Graphics Explorer Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Overview

C64 Graphics Explorer displays, inspects, converts, and exports Commodore 64 artwork. There is no account, sign-in, in-app purchase, advertising, or personal-data collection.

How the App Works

The built-in gallery, local file and layered-image import, palette analysis, Pixels and Display rendering, Layer Notes™, and image export all run on your Mac. The app can be used without an internet connection.

Files you open or drop into the app are read only to perform the action you requested. Palette remapping, CRT rendering, interlaced playback, and PNG or GIF creation happen locally. Exports are written only to the location you choose.

Data Collection and Analytics

We do not collect or receive personal data, artwork, usage history, or diagnostics. The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, telemetry, crash-reporting service, or third-party SDK that phones home.

C64GFX Network Access

Two features connect to c64gfx.com, and both require an explicit action:

Open C64GFX URL… requests a public C64GFX artwork page whose address you paste and downloads the artwork referenced by that page.

Open Random C64GFX Popular Image requests the public popular listing, chooses one supported artwork page from it, and then downloads that artwork.

A selected page may provide one image or the two phase images of interlaced artwork. The app also reads the page's public credit information, such as artist, source, release date, and CSDb links, so those credits can be shown in the Inspector.

Nothing is fetched in the background or on a schedule. There is no C64GFX account, login, or catalogue inside the app, and the app uploads nothing to C64GFX or anywhere else.

Clipboard

While the Open C64GFX URL dialog is open, the app checks the clipboard for a supported public C64GFX artwork address so it can prefill the field. It checks again if you return to the app while that dialog remains open.

Clipboard contents are examined locally, are not stored, and are not transmitted. Unsupported clipboard text is ignored. No network request is made until you choose to open the address.

Third-Party Requests and Links

When you use a C64GFX feature, C64GFX and any host serving the selected artwork may receive standard information needed to answer an HTTPS request, such as your IP address and the time of the request. This information is handled by those services, not received by the developer of C64 Graphics Explorer.

Artwork credits and Help can contain links to websites such as C64GFX, CSDb, Colodore, and GitHub. Choosing one opens it in your default browser, where that site's own privacy policy applies. Downloading the app through the Mac App Store is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Local Storage

App preferences are stored locally using standard macOS mechanisms. The app has no cloud account or remote history, and the developer has no access to your preferences, opened files, or exports.

Children's Privacy

The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If the app's data or network behavior changes, this page and its last-updated date will be revised.
